Best Practices for Using Social Media to Match for Adoption

Adoption is a beautiful and oftentimes difficult way to expand your family. Social media has become an increasingly popular tool for finding an expectant mother to match for adoption and can make the process so much easier. While navigating social media for adoption has its challenges and it requires a strategic approach to be successful, it is entirely possible and there are so many resources available to help with this. Here we will discuss some best practices and resources for finding an expectant mother to match for adoption on social media.

1. Be authentic: The most important thing when using social media for adoption is to be authentic. Share your story, your personality, and your values. Be honest about who you are and why you are hoping to expand your family. This will help you build a connection with potential expectant mothers or parents who share your values and vision for the adoption.

2. Post consistently: Consistency is key when it comes to social media. Post regularly and often to increase your visibility and reach. We posted every day when trying to find a match to adopt our son, and this is what I recommend. If you are unable to commit to posting every day, find a schedule you can stick with and then try to grow from there. Use a content calendar to plan your posts and ensure that you are sharing a variety of content that is interesting, informative, and engaging. 3. Use a reputable attorney or agency: It is crucial to work with a reputable attorney or adoption agency when using social media for adoption. They can provide guidance, support, and legal advice throughout the adoption process. They can also help you find and connect with potential birth mothers who are looking for an adoptive family. If you are pursuing private or independent adoption (AKA no agency) I strongly suggest finding an AAAA near you!

4. Stay up to date on social media trends: Social media is constantly evolving, and it is important to stay up to date on the latest trends and best practices. Use trend-spotting

tools, read blogs, and follow social media experts to stay informed and learn new strategies to improve your adoption social media strategy.

5. Strategically ask for shares: One of the most effective ways to increase your visibility on social media is to ask your followers to share your posts. This can help your posts reach a wider audience, including potential expectant mothers. However, it's important to do this strategically and not to come across as spammy or pushy. Many hopeful adoptive parents think asking for shares on nearly every post is an effective method for growing their following, but in reality, asking for shares about once a month and then gently reminding people how they can support your journey in between was much more effective. If you’re not sure what will work best for your audience, experience with some different ideas and keep an eye on your analytics to track results!

6. Be patient and persistent: Finding an expectant mother to match for adoption on social media takes effort, persistence, and often a significant amount of time. Don't get discouraged if you don't find a match right away. Keep posting, engaging, and building relationships with your followers. It takes time to build trust and establish connections that can lead to a successful adoption match.

In conclusion, social media can be a powerful tool for finding an expectant mother to match for adoption. By following these best practices, you can increase your chances of finding a successful match while building strong and lasting relationships with supporters of all kinds. Remember to be authentic, post consistently, use a reputable attorney or agency, stay up to date on social media trends, strategically ask for shares, and be patient.
